In the beginning of their career, LP did Parasmani, almost copied music
of SJ, AS THEY AGREED MANY TIMES…..However, in an interview Laxmikant
opened up: ”Pyareji and I used to play cricket together. There were 5 or
6 brothers in their company, all good musicians. So we formed an
orchestra. joining the film industry, later.Pyareji used to play the
violin and I wud play the mendolin. While on our way, we joined
Shankar-Jaikishan playing the instruments in their orchestra…..On a
question ‘who were your role models?’, he replied un- hesitatingly :
”Shankar-Jaikishan”.We hv been highly impressed by their work. In fact, I
was so influenced by Jaikishan, that I used to do everything, he did.
You wouldn’t believe it I even try to dress, talk and walk like him.
While singing, he used to shake his head a lot, and I imitated that too.
IN THE BEGINNING, OUR MUSIC COMPOSITIONS HAD HINTS OF HIS STYLE……..This was the reason why he removed us from his orchestra.
This is an excerpt from a newspaper, having interview of LP, where they
mentioned the above story of SJ’s influence on them…..I read many places
about SJ, and their relations in film industry…..However, acceptance of
Laxmikant about their removal by Jaikishan, did not come as surprize to
me, since this was the only cutting of a newspaper that surprized me,
as nowhere else I came thru Laxmikant’s approval of the above
fact…..Long live SJ’S MUSIC…….Ye manzilen hain kaun si, na vo samajh
sake na ham….
